Discovering Arnolfo’s Tower
The history of Arnolfo’s tower-house is intertwined with that of Colle di Val d’Elsa, of which it has become a symbol. It is a story that begins in the Middle Ages: it was here, according to tradition, that Arnolfo di Cambio was born—one of the greatest architects and sculptors of the 13th century.
Arnolfo’s tower-house represents a fascinating example of a medieval structure, excellently preserved in many of its parts and repurposed for residential use until recent years. More recently, it housed the studio of the painter Gino Terreni, who worked here for many years, leaving behind important frescoed works.
Contemporary treasures inside the Tower
The tower is a place where you can breathe history. It still retains its original stone and brick layout, with architectural features typical of the 12th and 13th centuries.
Inside, you can view three frescoes by Maestro Gino Terreni: Friendship, The Annunciation, and Stories of Arnolfo. These were created using earths from Dometaia, serving as a further tribute to the bond with the artistic heritage of Colle.
An ancient tradition indeed, as even Cennino Cennini told of his travels to Dometaia to collect colors!
Viewed from the outside while strolling through the streets of Colle, Arnolfo’s Tower allows you to admire the beauty of an ancient tower-house in all its glory.

The interior, at the moment, can only be visited on the occasion of extraordinary openings.
