Colle di Val d’Elsa: The Castle and the River

A full day (6–7 hours) exploring nature and history, suitable for everyone

This excursion offers a complete historical and natural itinerary, starting from the medieval castle of Colle di Val d’Elsa. You will first discover the town’s architectural and historical highlights before immersing yourself in the unspoilt nature of the stunning SentierElsa.
The tour begins at Porta Volterrana, crossing through the Borough and the Castle up to the panoramic viewpoint at the Baluardo. From there, we descend to the lower part of town, arriving at Piazza Arnolfo, and continue along the SentierElsa trail, starting from the Spugna Bridge to the San Marziale Bridge.
There will be a stop for lunch or a picnic on the riverbank, before continuing along the unpaved roads of the surrounding countryside, finally returning to the starting point in the Borgo.
