UMoCA
- Under Museum of Contemporary Art
What is an Under Museum? Born from a visionary project, UMoCA is an open-air contemporary art museum located beneath the San Francesco bridge. Come and discover it!

UMoCA – Under Museum of Contemporary Art
What if the museum was waiting for you under a bridge? UMoCA is a unique concept in Italy: it’s an open-air contemporary art museum located beneath the arches of the San Francesco bridge.
Created in 2001 from an idea by artist Cai Guo-Qiang in collaboration with the Arte Continua Association as part of the “Everything is Museum” project, UMoCA hosts permanent works and exhibitions by contemporary artists.
It was created to bring art to people, to the community, through a place that embodies passage: the physical passage between places, the symbolic passage between historical eras. Just as it is in the spirit of Colle!
What you will find
UMoCA is a must-see for those who love contemporary art and unconventional forms of expression.
Since 2022 it has been a permanent museum. It hosts rotating exhibitions dedicated to various themes, featuring works by international artists. Past exhibitions include those by Ni-Tsai Chin (2001), Jennifer Wen Ma (2005), Mario and Marisa Merz (2022), Mimmo Paladino (2023), Loris Cecchini (2023/2024), and Tobias Rehberger (2024-2025).
